Today's Readings
Liturgical reflection:
How many things do we believe in? It seems like there are fewer and fewer bedrock institutions, ideas and concepts that are believable.
On many levels, sociological, physical, the economy, politically and philosophically, there seems to be constant equivocation, where everything stands for nothing, as everything's supposed nature changes on a daily basis. Man continually spins new stories around the meaning of life and all its happenings. But are they truthful?
But Jesus, the son of man, quite simply says 'believe' in Him and miracles will happen. And haven't they? Don't they happen when we believe?
Not only can your faith heal physical maladies as Jesus heals the faith-filled blind men, but also the spiritual ones.
Today, pray to Jesus for a contemplative fulfillment and healing that He brings.

Have we been saved?
Liturgical reflection:
Catholics and many of their Protestant brothers and sisters pray with and study the life of Jesus Christ. And sometimes we have a tendency to relax our love for Him, as we believe that if we believe that Jesus is who he proclaimed to be, that we will be 'saved' and guaranteed a spot in heaven. Maybe our belief in Jesus might make us feel somehow comfortably 'saved.'
But Jesus suggests a true belief in Him, a divine man who is the world's true disrupter, is much more than proclaiming oneself 'saved.' No, we cannot just say 'Lord, Lord,' and expect entrance into Heaven. We actually have to do His will, 'the will of the Father.'
A kingdom of heaven on earth not only includes a prayer-filled, dynamic, intimate relationship with God, but requires action.
And where should our actions focus? Jesus gives us the answer:
To be 'Blessed' in this life, to be 'happy,' all we need to do is His will:

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’j31The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”Mark 12: 30-31

Today's Readings
Liturgical reflection:
The Lord's promises are many: He will feed us 'rich foods' and even destroy the prospects of death's by ripping it in half. He does all of this through His creative words and most of all through the example of His only begotten son, Jesus Christ. It is through Jesus that our human minds and hearts can start to sometimes just tangentially, but at others, contemplatively fathom how great our Lord is and what he promises us here on earth and after this life.
But today's psalm is Psalm 23, and its position in between the first reading and today's gospel shows us how to connect and be a part of the Lord's promises. King David encourages us to 'live in the house of the Lord' all the days of my life.'
We can only do this through our commitment and discipline to constantly trust and commune in the Lord. To do this, we really need a behavior change, a life change to make such a commitment in such a busy, noisy world.

Practical Tip Of The Day:
There is a Catholic Church near you...well, for at least most of our readers. The church provides a network of faith that has Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and God the Father as its greatest common factors. While the church is imperfect, it has stood the tests of time, reformed when necessary and has never watered down or gotten rid of Jesus ministry's teachings. The church feeds, clothes, teaches and provides service work for more of God's children than any other secular organization. There is a certain richness to it that is hard to describe in mere words. It is an experience, with 1000's of ways to receive and experience the joys and bear the crosses of this life.
So, today, find the Catholic Churches in your area. Look at their Mass schedule and then schedule and attend one Mass.

Jesus' Justice
Liturgical reflection:
Today's reading speaks to justice. Jesus' understanding of justice and our obtainment of it centers on the poor, hungry and brokenhearted, the fallen, i.e. US! Even better, Jesus starts prescribing what a just world, what heaven on earth looks like (paraphrase): The lions will eat hay with the oxen!
This is totally at odds with our world and our practices. But He hints at how we can turn around and love him and all of our brothers and sisters.
All we have to do is turn to him, have a healthy 'fear' of Him, where we acknowledge His role as the creator, the special gifts He has given us and ask Him for guidance along our spiritual, life's path.
This is true justice, when we all look to God for guidance, for it is in doing His will that we are doing our special mission, what the Lord made us for. This means our vocation as a married person, single person, religious is being lived as He defines it.
Are you living the way God wants you to?

Liturgy reflection:
Today, St. Paul tells us there is no distinction between 'Greek and Jew,' that we are all sons and daughters of God, made in His image.
But while equally made in His divine image, we have a clear choice to make to receive our Creator's favor:
We can choose to embrace a God jealous for our hearts or we can choose everything, anything else the world has to offer.
Think of the Lord's proposition as a matter of focus. If we choose to focus on thoughts and intentions that help to develop our loving relationship with the Lord, blessings proceed from all of our life's experiences, both those perceived to be good and bad.
And...
We can choose to focus on the secular. The inference here is utter loneliness, as we self-praise and worship, leaving our beloved Father out of the mix! Put Him first!

Schedule to attend one Mass this week at a local Catholic Church and focus on the Mass's liturgy and homily.
Write down one thought in a notebook, journal, daily planner that speaks to you.
Ponder and pray over that thought and see what the Lord wants you to do next (Doubtful that this is practical? Watch the video below for inspiration.)

Do not become drowsy by the anxieties of daily life!

Liturgy reflection:
Jesus announces that with all the challenges surrounding us, all our foibles and imperfections, that we still need to be vigilant and keep our focus on Him, on His cross. The inference is clear: Life's challenges and worldly promises are no excuse for not choosing the Lord, His way, His word. His Love.
So try choosing peace, time with your kids, forgiveness and empty yourself of anger, resentment sin.
How? Confession!

Share His Good News!
Liturgy reflection:
Today, Daniel and Jesus speak to the immense symbols of what heaven and God's power is like: like bright lights, fire, heat and the eternal image of a budding fig tree: Bright, energetic life!
How many of us are challenged to see heaven, earth and all its creatures as symbols of the Lord's power? How many of us are lethargic and, knowingly or unknowingly, pessimistic about all God's creation?
It's OK. Be patient with yourself. We are easily conformed by our environments, many of which dismiss the Creator and all the evidence He surrounds us with. We become our environments.
Today, change your environment by reading today's readings. The more you surround yourself with His Word, His promise, the more you will be renewed in spirit and become the image that God made you to be. Be His image. Amen.
